We repair carpets rather than replace them. The usual jobs are ripples and bubbles that need restretching, burns, bleach marks and pet damage patched from an offcut, lifted seams and loose door bars and thresholds. A restretch of one room is £90 to £160 and a patch repair is £90 to £140.

A rippled carpet is not worn out. It has relaxed off the gripper, usually because it was fitted without being power stretched or because heavy furniture has been dragged across it. Restretching pulls it back onto the gripper and trims the surplus, and the room looks like it was fitted yesterday. It is the single most satisfying job in this trade and people are always surprised it is not a replacement.

Burns, bleach marks and pet damage are patched. We cut a plug out of an offcut, or from inside a wardrobe or under the sofa where nobody looks, and fit it with the pile running the same way. Done properly you have to be told where it is to find it.

If you kept the offcuts from the original fit, dig them out before we come. It makes the repair invisible rather than merely close.

What we repair

Ripples and bubbles
Power stretched back onto the gripper and trimmed. The commonest carpet repair by a mile.
Burns and iron marks
Cut out and plugged from an offcut with the pile running the right way.
Pet damage
Chewed doorways and scratched edges patched and re-gripped.
Bleach and stain patches
Where a clean will not lift it, a patch will. Cheaper than a new carpet.
Lifted seams
Re-taped and bonded so the join sits flat and stops fraying.
Loose stair carpet
Treads refixed, nosings re-gripped, bars replaced.

How a carpet repair works

1
Send us a photo
A picture of the damage and a rough room size is normally enough to price it.
2
We confirm the price
Fixed for the visit. If we need to supply matching carpet we say so before we come.
3
We do the repair
Furniture moved, carpet stretched or patched, edges re-gripped, everything put back.
4
We vacuum up
Trimmings and old gripper go with us.

Landlords and letting agents, this is one of the cheapest ways to turn a tired flat around between tenancies. A restretch and two patches often costs less than a tenth of recarpeting, and it photographs far better on a listing.

When a repair is not the answer

  • Carpet worn through to the backing across a whole traffic route cannot be patched invisibly. We will tell you.
  • Widespread water damage usually takes the underlay with it, and the underlay is what you can smell.
  • Very old foam-backed carpet tends to crumble when stretched. We check before we start.
  • No offcut and an unusual pattern means a patch will be visible. We will show you where before we cut anything.

Carpet repair questions

How much does carpet repair cost in London?
A single room restretch is £90 to £160 and a patch repair is £90 to £140. Hallway, stairs and landing together is £160 to £280. The minimum charge is £90.
Can you get the ripples out of my carpet?
Yes, and this is the job we do most. Ripples mean the carpet has come off the gripper. We power stretch it back on and trim the surplus, and the room looks freshly fitted.
Will the patch be visible?
If you have an offcut, almost never. We match the pile direction and cut the plug to the pattern. Without an offcut we can take a plug from inside a wardrobe or under a sofa and patch that spot instead.
Do I need to move the furniture?
No. We move it, do the work and put it back. Tell us if there is anything very heavy or fragile so we bring an extra pair of hands.
Can you repair carpet on stairs?
Yes. Loose treads, worn nosings and lifted edges are all refixable, usually without taking the whole flight up.
How long does a restretch take?
A normal bedroom is about an hour. A hall, stairs and landing is two to three hours.
Do you supply matching carpet?
We can source a close match for common ranges, but the best result always comes from your own offcuts. Have a look in the loft or under the stairs before we come.
Do you fit new carpet as well?
Yes, that is a separate service. See our carpet fitting page for prices.
Rippled, burnt or lifting carpet?
Send us a photo. We will tell you whether it can be repaired and what it costs, before you spend anything on a new one.
